What is “worship”? Who’s it for?
Worship is God’s gift to us! The action in worship is first from God (as He feeds us with His Word and Sacraments) and then from us to God (as we respond with praise, prayer, and thanks). The primary “actor” in worship is certainly God. Worship is a time when the congregation gathers together to receive God’s gifts.

At St. John you’ll see people of all ages worshiping together. Why? Worship is a time for both old and young to be nourished in the faith as a Christian community. Senior citizens, Gen-X’ers, married couples, children — all people — are united together in Christ: we are great sinners in need of God’s grace and forgiveness in Christ. God’s Church is a “hospital” for sin-sick souls, not a “country club” for the saved! Thanks be to God He richly blesses us with these gifts as we gather together to be fed and strengthened in the name of our Triune God!
