Music
The Word of God combined with music is a great and glorious gift of God! Voices and instruments encourage the entire worshiping community to join in singing the Gospel message. Use the links to your right to view the many ways in which St. John’s worshiping community uses music to tell the Gospel story.
Youth Music Tour 2012 is heading east! St. John School Singers and Ringers will be joined by several high school musicians from Seward and from Heartland Lutheran High School, Grand Island, Nebraska. This combined group of musicians will be singing God’s Word in hymn festivals, a school chapel, and worship services. This year’s tour schedule:
- Thursday, March 8: 7:00 p.m. hymn festival at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
- Friday, March 9: 8:30 a.m. school chapel at Trinity Lutheran School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
- Friday, March 9: 7:00 p.m. hymn festival at Bethany Lutheran Church, Naperville, Illinois
- Saturday, March 10: 6:00 p.m. worship service at Zion Lutheran Church, Marengo, Illinois
- Sunday, March 11: 8:00 a.m. worship service at Zion Lutheran Church, Marengo, Illinois
Music in this year’s festival centers around the theme “Consider Now What God Has Done,” a phrase in the hymn “All Christians Who Have Been Baptized,” number 596 in Lutheran Service Book. Music used in the festival ranges from a choral setting of a Lamentations text sung in Hebrew, a Bach setting of ”Now Thank We All Our God” sung in German, as well as many familiar hymns sung together with the congregation. Handbells and instruments will encourage us to sing of God’s love in Jesus in a variety of musical expressions of the Christian faith. Join us in this exciting endeavor!
