July 2010 Parent Newsletter
“Welcome!” What a wonderful word! The many gracious greetings of staff, parents and church members have made our family’s move here such a blessing. For those hands who prepared such delicious meals, our appetites wish to thank you! Our family is unpacked and settled into our new home. Our daughter, Abbey, is adjusting wonderfully to the CDC summer camp program and the staff of the CDC has shown me an extra measure of patience as I adjust to “life behind the director’s desk”! My husband, Bob, is still in search of a job. Thank you to those who have offered assistance in this search. Your prayers and support during our transition time have been a blessing.
The children here at the CDC have enjoyed swimming and water play, field trips, hometown tours and Christmas in July! The happy voices down the hall confirm that statement! Our hearts are sadden, however, to say goodbye to both Dee Mitchell and Darlene Rockenbach. Darlene will be starting a new preschool this fall for the Centennial Schools in Utica. We want to thank both women for their dedicated service and ask God’s blessing on their new endeavors. We wish them only the best.
We look forward to home visits and the start of the new school year on August 17th.
May God continue to bless us in our ministry to young children.
In His Service,
Rebecca Bimler
St. John Child Development Center, Director
During our last tornado warning it became apparent that we need to make a recommendation to establish a shared understanding of good safety practices. We want to be sure that we continually model this for our children too!
At their April meeting the Child Development Center Board approved to add the following to the Parent Handbook:
The Child Development Center practices regular fire and tornado drills. In the event of a real severe weather evacuation to the basement we strongly encourage parents who may be arriving at the Center to stay with their child in the basement until the warning has expired.
Beginning March 16th through March 31st St. John Child Development Center will offer registration to families whose children are presently enrolled, and to families who are members of St. John Lutheran Church. Please note that children who are currently enrolled in the program are not automatically extended continuous enrollment. You must return the proper, completed forms and fees.
Any openings on April 1st will be made available to new families who have called to schedule an appointment.
Clarification:
We’ve had a little confusion about the Center’s recycling program. The bins are being filled by recyclables we use at the Center. We will not have space to recycle items children bring from home.
Did you know that the Lincoln Journal Star has started a weekly curbside pick-up recycling program right here in Seward? You can read all about it here. The cost is $10 a month for Journal-Start subscribers, or $12 dollars a month for non-subscribers. A large, covered bin (or two if you need another) is delivered to your door, and Monday is the pick-up day for Seward.
The children are becoming more and more aware of the benefits to recycling, so we encourage you to look into this opportunity!
Along those lines, we are wondering about getting a few bins for the Center. We already take recycling to our fine drop-off center here in town, but the Journal-Star will take glass, and ALL plastics 1 – 7. This means that the many, many milk cups that we use each week could get recycled instead of thrown into a landfill. We are wondering if perhaps any families would like to sponsor a month of recycling? Let us know what you think.
UPDATE: How exciting! We already have FOUR families who will sponsor a month of recycling! Our plan is to start on the $12 a month for two tubs here, and just put in the plastics that our local site won’t take. (We have some wonderful volunteers who help take our recycling in now, God bless their help!)
