Volunteer Opportunities

Are you talented? Handy? Willing? While we do our best to take care of fixing things as they come up, we’d also love to have some help! If you’d like to be a part of our little community, we have some volunteering opportunities – both large and small. If any of these look like something you’d be interested in, please call the CDC office at 643-3122. (Plus it’s so fun to have a look around our building!)

  • Weeding (20-30 minutes) Occasionally our parking lot gets a little weedy, and while the staff tries to keep on top of it, we’d love to have some help! If you’re a garden-y type, give us a call!
  • Gutter Cleaning (An hour? This can be a one-time stint or an ongoing commitment.) Twice a year our gutters need cleaning. If you’re brave with a ladder, please give us a call!
  • Fix Toddler Door (One-time) The door to our toddler door needs to be tightened up so it can close properly. Apparently it just needs to be screwed into the door jam tighter, but I wonder if some edges need to be planed. Any carpenters with some advice?
  • Chair Repair Mrs. Rockebach’s ‘comfy chair’ that the children read in has a ripped arm. While I’m glad to try and sew it back together, it will wind up looking like a monster from a B-movie. Any handy seamstresses out there?
  • Ruler Collecting Mrs. Suhr has a fun project for the School Age Room, and she needs some old wooden rulers or yardsticks.
  • Concrete Parking Bumpers Removed We don’t care what you do with them, but they’re broken and ugly and they need to go.
  • Recycling Drop-Off Mrs. Brady , Mrs. Oliver, and others usually take care of this wonderful task each week, but it would be nice to give them a break. If you are heading to the recycling center and want to stop by Tuesday before noon (like the Ohlmans do!) or Thursday afternoon (anytime), that would be delightful! Just call to tell us you’re coming that day. (We are trying out using the Lincoln Journal Star recycling program to take the plastics that we can’t drop off here. We are still going to take some of our recycling to our local place.)
  • Give us some window advice During the winter, our south-facing windows gather heat like nobody’s business. The 4′s & 5′s preschool room (my room) has no ventilation, so we wind up having to turn the air conditioner on in the middle of winter! Seriously. We are dealing with two large (non-opening) windows and a brick wall. Help.
  • Show and Tell for Grown-Ups! It would be nice to have some members of our congregation visit our Center. Perhaps you have an item that you think would be interesting for the children to see – give us a call and we’ll have you come over some morning to show it to the little ones. We love company!
