About St. John

Proclaim and Practice the Love of Christ

St. John Lutheran Church, a member congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, serves the community of Seward and the surrounding area with the Good News – the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to Proclaim and Practice the Love of Christ. Because of Jesus’ love for us, we share that love with those around us.
We invite you to join us for worship and Bible class in order to discover more about the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

I’m a visitor … what can I expect?

Where should I park?
Parking is available to the west and north of the church.

What should I wear?
It is common to see worshipers dressed in everything from neat casual to “Sunday best.” Wear what you feel is comfortable and appropriate.

Should I give at the offering?
This is an opportunity in our service for us to be able to give back to God out of what He has first given to us. We do not expect visitors to participate unless they also are moved to express thankfulness to God for what He has done.

What about children?
Children are encouraged to be active participants in hearing and responding to the Word of God in worship. If children become restless during the service, the nursery and cry room are available. Ushers will be happy to assist you in locating these rooms.

Will I be able to follow along with the service?
Yes! Each of our services provides a bulletin so that you can participate in the worship service.

What is communion all about and do I participate?
Holy Communion is for those who believe as we do in this Sacrament of the Altar. We believe it is the true body and blood of Jesus Christ, in, with, and under the bread and the wine, given for the forgiveness of our sins. Please contact a member of St. John’s pastoral staff to learn more. We welcome your questions and interest.

Membership information: Joining the St. John family

If you are looking for a church home, we would love to have you join our family. If you are already a confirmed member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, you may join by transfer or reaffirmation of faith. Those who transfer are should contact our pastoral staff for a meeting of welcome.
For those new to the Lutheran Christian faith, we offer an adult instruction class. Contact the church office to find out when they next meet.
The adult instruction class offers a great opportunity for individuals to learn more about Lutheran Christian teachings (doctrine), either as a refresher from their confirmation instruction or in preparation to join the Lutheran Church. The class is typically held on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
